A STORY OF ESCAPISM AND CONNECTION
This island wove its magic from our very first visit, giving us a strong connection to the sea, the landscape and the people, so it was here we planned our place to escape and relax, to take life at our own pace.

Rain clouds approach across the roaring seas, the call of gulls fills the air and the wild wind rocks us back on our heels…and still the sand is a warm gold and the sea a shimmering turquoise. No wonder we fell in love with this island…
We knew we wanted to build our dream house by the sea on this beautiful wild island and were lucky enough, after a few years of searching, to find a plot with a derelict house overlooking the sea, the isle of Skye and the mainland in the far distance.
Lochportain is a very special place, off the beaten track and still very much a wilderness with a handful of houses dotted along the shoreline and a road less travelled leading to a series of beautiful bays and inlets.
With views in every direction we knew we wanted to build something that would walk softly on the landscape & blend seamlessly into its surroundings.
Designed by award winning architects, from Skye, the highly efficient, low impact, modular construction of the house is designed to sit comfortably within the island landscape. The crisp and contemporary design takes its inspiration from the honest simplicity of traditional Scottish longhouses, brought right up-to-date with energy efficient floor to ceiling glazing, an air-source heat pump and an MVHR system all wrapped in a super-insulated body.
