FIND ESCAPISM
The island is full of adventures to be found, with miles of uninterrupted wilderness to explore and plenty of roads less travelled.
RAIN CLOUDS APPROACH ACROSS ROARING SEAS, THE CALL OF GULLS FILLS THE AIR…
OUTER HEBRIDES
…AND THE WILD WIND ROCKS US BACK ON OUR HEELS AND STILL THE SAND IS WARM GOLD AND THE SEA A SHIMMERING TURQUOISE…
The island
Uist lies at the centre of the archipelago that makes up the Outer Hebrides, Scotland’s Western Isles. Linked by causeways, this island chain stretches from Eriskay in the south to Berneray in the north, via South Uist, Benbecula, Grimsay, and North Uist, with Uist serving as the collective name. The wild beauty of North Uist encapsulates a remarkable landscape of dramatic moorland and rocky coastlines, in the east, and fertile machair, endless sandy beaches and turquoise seas, in the west.
The beaches
There are many beautiful beaches all within easy distance of No.9. Each has it own character but all remain relatively quiet and uncrowded, even at the height of summer. With endless stretches of white sand, turquoise seas, machair covered dunes, rocky headlands and views of the many smaller islands that dot the horizon, these beaches offer a stunning location for days spent meandering, rock-pooling, wild swimming, picnicking, paddle-boarding, surfing and sea-life watching,
The adventure
Take a hike up Eaval, North Uist’s highest peak, a bike ride along the coast or fill your lungs with sea air on an exciting whale-watching boat trip to uninhabited islands. The island offers adventures to suit everyone.
