Where sea meets sky

The beaches on the west coast of North Uist are some of the most beautiful and undisturbed you will find...

West Beach

West Beach stretches along the entire west coast of Berneray. Brilliant white sand backed by tall, machair- covered dunes and wonderful views across to the small island of Pabbay and the hills of Harris beyond.

Clachan Sands

Situated at the top of North Uist, and closest to No.9, is Clachan Sands, a gorgeous white sand, 4km long beach backed by extensive machair, it’s a spectacular setting with views across to the Udal Peninsula and the small island of Boreray.

Hosta Beach

Hosta beach is the top surf beach on Uist but is also a beautiful spot for non-surfers too. Backed by machair- covered dunes and tucked between two small rocky headlands, Hosta feels both secluded and cosy.

Balranald

The curve of white sand at Balranald beach is a beautiful spot for a stroll, a dip or a picnic, where you can enjoy the fresh seafood delights on offer at the nearby Dunes Cabin. It’s an all-round favourite with families and, thanks to the RSPB Nature Reserve, very popular with wildlife lovers too.

Baleshare

Baleshare is a small island connected to North Uist by a scenic causeway. A 6km stretch of flat sand slopes gently into the sea making it the perfect spot for a dip. Rocky sections punctuate the beach, creating interesting features that change in appearance between low and high tide.
